Blind Creek naturalisation
Alluvium helped transform a buried section of Blind Creek into a naturalised urban waterway—restoring ecological function, enhancing parkland, and creating an accessible, climate-resilient space for the Knox community.

Melbourne Water’s Reimagining Your Creek program aims to transform concrete or grassed channels into more naturalised waterways while enhancing surrounding parklands. Alluvium, in collaboration with REALM Studios, was engaged to reimagine an 800m piped section of Blind Creek in the City of Knox. Previously a piped low-flow system, Blind Creek lacked social and ecological function, despite being a popular recreational corridor connecting parks, schools, and sporting ovals
.Our team, along with MW, Knox City Council, South East Water, and DELWP, developed designs to daylight the creek, transforming it into a high-quality open space that improves accessibility, recreation, ecological value, and urban cooling benefits, all while maintaining hydraulic conditions. The design promotes longevity by reducing maintenance costs and enabling future development opportunities for community engagement.
Local interventions like bridge crossings, stepping stones, and educational spaces allow the community to interact with the creek. The project, now fully constructed and planted, has created an urban forest that provides shade and mitigates the urban heat island effect.
