Economic valuation of ecosystem Valuation for Ayeyarwady River Basin, Myanmar
The Ayeyarwady Basin is crucial to Myanmar’s economy and livelihoods, but poor management threatened its natural capital and socio-economic stability. To support evidence-based basin management, an economic valuation of ecosystem services was conducted, addressing a key knowledge gap in river basin planning.

NCC were engaged through the Australia Water Partnership to lead a complex project on increasing the understanding of economic values attributable to the ARB. This project involved a detailed assessment and valuation of key ecosystem services, including irrigation, inland water transport, fisheries and aquaculture, potable water supply, biodiversity and ecotourism. The detailed analysis was used to inform planning, management and investment options assessment for the future of the Basin.
