Enhancing Capacity and Adaptation to the Impacts of Climate Change in the Rural Water Supply Sector Vietnam
Alluvium supported the Australian Water Partnership (AWP) in enhancing Vietnam’s rural water supply resilience to climate change.

This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the Department of Water Resources (DWR) at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), addressed critical challenges faced by rural communities in accessing clean water. Despite significant progress, approximately 31 million people in rural areas still lack access to centralised water supply facilities, with climate change exacerbating issues such as prolonged droughts, saltwater intrusion, and water shortages.
Key tasks included policy review, capacity assessments, stakeholder engagement, and integrating GEDSI principles. Deliverables included regulatory inputs, case studies, a Theory of Change Plan, and an MEL framework. The project strengthened governance, improved water management, and supported Vietnam’s goal of universal clean water access by 2030, ensuring sustainable, climate-resilient water solutions for rural communities.
